Parkland hotel is a family run business located just minutes from one of the largest provincial parks in Saskatchewan, Meadow Lake Provincial Park. In the heart of the Village of Dorintosh, SK.
In 1981 Don and Leona Pevach bought the Dorintosh Hotel from John and Kay Chwelos.
Which was the start of what we all know as the Parkland Hotel and Hazel’s Place.
Renovations started in the first year, where expansion of the bar room occurred and the additional room for Live Entertainment, large dance floor and additional seating all happened. The original Bar was a 50- 75 seat area, and when the washrooms were moved the occupancy doubled in size. Hazel’s Place had begun to take form in these years as the restaurant was renovated and Hazel Bundschuh ran the restaurant. Creating the famous menu we have today. The Parkland Hotel is made up of a series of different buildings and additions, as time and money permitted. In the 80’s and 90’s there was live entertainment nearly every weekend and the Parkland Hotel was the place to be!
The famous Steak Pit was added in the 80’s and it was the first of its kind. Thursday night steak night had been created and has now been a functioning ritual for over 20 years. In 1998 Pevach’s bought the Parkland Express which is the bus used to haul people to and from there home or campsite- aiming to eliminate any chance of drinking and driving and give people a worry free ride home. In the mid 90’s Don and Leona also started catering. They started with catering wedding bars and then it transpired into catering the entire event. Bar, food and midnight lunch if required. The food catering has been a huge success and the catering has been in full force for over 25 years. There was no venue too big or too small. The entire family participated in providing the best service and the best meal - second best was never good enough. Many large catering jobs Don was up for a day or two to prep. All the catering is prepared in Hazel’s Place restaurant and the wonderful staff are responsible for the fabulous food that is served. In the early 2000’s VLT’s came into the hotel and we now have 10 VLT’s. A motel was added in this time frame to the Parkland Hotel, which is situated adjacent to the hotel. The Motel boasts 5 rooms with a suite as one of the rooms.
The bar has been the host to many events over the years, such as the Winter Festival started by Don Pevach and Maryanne Schwartz in the early 80’s, the October Fest, Halloween Parties, Christmas Parties. Some of these venues had the place packed full every weekend, standing room only. With the Hotel being the Pit Stop on the way to the Meadow Lake Provincial Park tourism was and still is huge for the hotel. There were many annual fishing groups and hunting groups that made Parkland Hotel there home while in the area, which they still do to this day. Up until the mid 90’s the Pevach Family lived in the attached suite. So work was always close to home and they made it their extended living room on Sundays.
The bar has been a part of the Pevach family for 35 years as of 2016. It is still family operated with Brent Pevach and Family operating the business. Pevach’s have done another series of extensive renovations and updating to what was already a very functional setup and established business. The original café that was built in 1937 required foundation repairs in 2012 and as a family they decided to re-do the foundation with the existing structure still standing. It was a huge undertaking and they moved a ton of dirt and poured a new foundation for what was the oldest building in Dorintosh. Pevach Family understands the importance of preserving the heritage buildings of the past. As the children to Don and Leona the Pevach Family is proud to have the opportunity to carry on their dream and legacy. The Parkland Hotel has many memories and a place in all their hearts. Pevach’s are continually trying to come up with innovative ideas to improve the facility and make it better. The newest innovation is the Drive Thru Offsales just off the West side of the building and the Offsale Delivery.

Which was the start of what we all know as the Parkland Hotel and Hazels Place. Up until the mid 90’s our family lived in the attached suite. So work was always close to home and we made it our extended living room on Sundays. The bar was closed on Sundays back then.

Ironically the original café was also our home as children so we were lifting the portion of the building that we all grew up in as kids. We also found parts to the one and only phone in town at one time under the floor while excavating. We found the trap door where they used to drop the cream down and store items in the cellar when that area was a café.
As the children to Don and Leona we are proud to have to opportunity to carry on their dream and legacy. The Parkland Hotel has many memories and place in all our hearts. We are continually trying to come up with innovative ideas to improve the facility and make it better. The newest innovation is the Drive Thru Offsales just off the West side of the building. Try out the Steak Pit or Hazels restaurant. You will not be disappointed.
